The Film

Read the screenplay (PDF) — Final shooting script, April 2012.

After more of the Stab 4 cast is brutally murdered, reporter Kylie Scott, now the author of a book entitled "Manchester Massacre," convinces the StabMovies Team to begin production on a new Stab 5, based on the "real life" murders of the cast of Stab 4: Fresh Blood.

To cast this new "inspired-by-another-true-story" film, production also begins on a Stab Reality/Competition television show, where contestants compete for four roles in the new Stab 5.

The only problem is: once you become a cast member of a Stab movie... someone... somewhere... wants you dead.

More of the Stab 4: Fresh Blood cast have been brutally murdered. Reporter Kylie Scott has written a book about the killings called Manchester Massacre. She talks the StabMovies.com team into making a new Stab 5, based on the "real life" murders of the Stab 4 cast.

Survivor Shannon Nightingale comes on board too. She is still struggling to get past the earlier murders and has been abusing her prescription medication.

To cast this new "inspired-by-another-true-story" film, the team also starts a Stab reality competition show called The Stab Project. Contestants move into a house and compete for four roles in the new Stab 5. Rachel, Kylie and Shannon arrive and introduce themselves to the cast. The contestants learn production basics and sit down for camera confessionals, reality show style.

The ending is one of the unused endings written for Scream 2, with some changes.

Release & Reception

The film went up on YouTube in seven parts between August 14 and August 19, 2012, well ahead of the Halloween date first announced. A single full-length upload followed on September 20, 2012.

By September 2026 the full-movie upload had about 596,000 views. Part 1 had about 315,000 and Part 3 about 120,000.

Uncut confessionals from the reality-show contestants went up on November 9 and 10, 2012, followed by bloopers and behind the scenes footage on December 23, 2012.

In March 2013 StabMovies.com posted full takes of the opening death sequence, the Elise and Mike death scene, a group scene, Shannon's attack and the massacre scene.

A commentary version with Joshua Patrick Dudley went up on February 12, 2017.

Deleted Scenes & Trivia

  • Cut scene: Corey Meets the Cast, with Jeff Davis as Corey Waters, posted March 11, 2013. Black gaps mark where the other parts of the scene would have gone.
  • Uncut confessionals from Alex Stapf, Ashley Younger, Cara Shields, Charlie Eager, Chris O'Brocki, Chris Wilson, Christian Ryan, Erica Browning, Fredrick L.L. Collier, Jeff Davis, Kwame Berry and Nicole Ward, posted November 9 and 10, 2012.
  • Bloopers and behind the scenes, posted December 23, 2012.
  • Title tests and title cards: Title Teaser (October 24, 2011), Title Card 2 (June 25, 2012) and Title Test (September 24, 2012). For the final titles they dropped the colored background and changed the way the T works to be more like the original Stab opening. Shannon Pope made the titles.
  • Photo and video credits, posted May 21, 2013. Joshua forgot to make the usual photo credits, like the ones for Stab 4 and Stab 5, when the film came out. They contain spoilers.
  • Ashley Younger's audition tape, posted July 22, 2015.

Trivia

Stab 6: Ghostface Returns is the title of both versions of Stab 6, the one in the Scream films and this one.

The screenplay came out as a 236 page paperback on October 27, 2019.

Who Did It

Rachel Arnold and Kylie Scott are the killers. The film itself does not spell it out, but the story of Stab 7 opens by saying they got away with plotting the deaths of their reality show cast and went straight on to planning another string of murders.

  • Stab 6: Ghostface Returns is the title of both versions of Stab 6, the one inside the Scream films and this one. On the Scream's Stab Movies page, StabMovies.com notes that Scream 4's title card reads just STAB 6, and that Ghost Face Returns is also the name of a Gale Weathers book in the Scream story.
  • The ending is one of the unused endings written for Scream 2, reworked. StabMovies.com said fans wanted to see it made.
  • The Scream's Stab Movies page files the Sherrie and Trudie sequence that opens Scream 4 under Stab 7. Joshua's reasoning is that Stab 7 would not open with the same scene audiences had just seen in Stab 6, so he thinks that footage is the in-story Stab 6 playing inside Stab 7.
  • Donna Amato is credited as playing Donna Dube. In Behind the Mask, Part 3 the interviewee is listed as Donna Dube.
  • A one-on-one interview with Stephanie Maheu, posted January 7, 2013, covers Stab 5 and Stab 6 and confirmed she would return for Stab 7.
  • It is StabMovies.com's third film, after Stab 4: Fresh Blood and Stab 5.
  • Every character still alive at the time was asked to do a camera confessional, as if they were on a reality show. Twelve uncut confessionals were posted as bonus footage.
  • Fans asked to see The Stab Project title sequence that plays on the TV behind Rachel, Shannon and Kylie, so it was posted on its own.
  • The film is on IMDb as tt2247942.
  • A Stab 6 in 1 Minute cut was posted January 26, 2014, and an Every Death kill count video was posted September 29, 2023.

Connections

  • It continues directly from Stab 5 (2011) and the murders of the Stab 4: Fresh Blood cast.
  • The Stab Project, the reality show in this film, shares its name with a real StabMovies.com project that would have let fans help finish Stab 1, 2 and 3.
  • In Stab 7: Knife of the Hunter (2013), Rachel Arnold keeps killing, the ghost of Joshua Dudley helps her, and Lieutenant Dylan Roberts is back after narrowly escaping death the last time Ghost Face was in town.
  • The official synopsis for Stab 7 (2017) opens five years after this film. Rachel and Kylie got away with it, and Jennifer Mallard and Shannon Nightingale are in hiding.
  • Heidi Nicolle plays Kylie Scott here and in Stab 5. Jessica Vigil plays her in Stab 2 (2022), where StabMovies.com calls her the third actress in the part. Mia Gaudette plays her in Stab 3: Holiday Horror (2023) as the fourth.
  • Behind the Mask, Part 3 (2020) covers the making of this film.

Production

Stab 6: Ghostface Returns is a direct sequel to StabMovies.com's Stab 5. It puts the cast on the set of a Stab reality competition show that is casting four parts in a new Stab film.

The first sign of the film was a short title teaser on October 24, 2011, which promised a Halloween 2012 premiere.

Four production vlogs followed the shoot. In Vlog 1 (May 19, 2012), Joshua Patrick Dudley and Rachel Alexandria Arnold talked about where production stood, the new and returning cast, new sponsors and new props, and dropped hints about the story. Vlog 2 (June 2, 2012) added Stephanie Maheu (Shannon), Heidi Nicolle (Kylie) and Jeff Davis (Corey). Vlog 3 (July 29, 2012) was with the out-of-state cast: Kwame Berry (Jamie), Fredrick L.L. Collier (Chason), Chris O'Brocki (Erik) and Ashley Younger (Elise). The camera died before that one finished. In Vlog 4 (July 31, 2012), most of the contestant cast said hello.

Filming was still going on in late June 2012. The pre-teaser from June 26 warned that many scenes and characters were missing because they were still shooting.

Ashley Younger's audition tape was posted in 2015. StabMovies.com said watching it makes clear why they had to cast her.

The film was shot on a Veho Kuzo and edited in Final Cut Pro X, the same setup used on the anthology The Trifecta of Terror. It was shot with the camera's built-in microphone. StabMovies.com has apologized more than once for the audio quality and promised to fix it on Stab 7.

In the opening death sequence Laura Coleman and Adam Kaufmann play the victims. Joshua Patrick Dudley and Rachel Alexandria Arnold took turns filming and overseeing. Christian Ryan worked as a grip, played Ghostface for a few takes and played Zombie Ghostface.

For the Elise and Mike death scene, Joshua Patrick Dudley was losing his voice. Chris O'Brocki worked as a grip and can be heard on the behind the scenes tape.

A scene of Corey Waters meeting the cast outside the reality-show house was filmed out of order because of scheduling. Joshua Patrick Dudley cut it because it did not match the rest of the scene once editing started.

The release date kept moving up. The title teaser, title card, pre-teaser and vlogs all said October 31, 2012. By the teaser trailer on August 9, 2012, the film was coming out almost three months early, and Part 1 went up five days later.

The group scene where The Stab Project contestants learn production basics has most of the cast in it. Full takes of it, of Shannon's attack and of the massacre scene were posted in March 2013.

Behind the Mask, Part 3 (June 21, 2020) is a 73-minute making-of for the film. It has interviews with Joshua Patrick Dudley, Rachel Alexandria Arnold, Stephanie Maheu, Nicole Linton, Jeff Davis, Donna Dube, Laura Coleman and Arielle Kaplan.

Props and costumes

From this film on, the productions used replica Buck 120s donated by Pop's Props, which no longer makes them. The FAQ adds that Stab 7 (2017) also used a dulled-down real Buck 120. In May 2026, after fifteen years of searching, StabMovies.com found retractable Buck 120 replicas from a seller on Etsy. The news post spells the shop Kaltec 3D and the FAQ spells it Katlec3D.

A Zombie Ghostface appears, played by Christian Ryan.

StabMovies.com built a real Manchester Massacre website as a prop. It can be seen in Lacey's apartment, and a full tour was posted to YouTube in 2017.

The Stab Project, the in-story reality show, got its own title sequence. It plays on the TV behind Rachel, Shannon and Kylie, and it was posted on its own because fans asked for it.

Production

Stab 6 was shot on a Veho Kuzo and cut in Final Cut Pro X, the same setup used on the anthology Trifecta of Terror.

From this film onward the productions stopped using a real knife. They switched to replica Buck 120s from Pop’s Props, which are no longer made. In May 2026, after fifteen years of looking, StabMovies.com finally found retractable Buck 120 replicas again, from Katlec3D.
